The Great Divide Ranger District on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will host the Morgan Falls candlelight hike from 5:30 – 8pm. The event will take place at the Morgan Falls/St. Peter’s Dome Recreation Area on Ashland Bayfield Road (Forest Road 199) in Ashland County. The family-friendly event is free to the public and requires no day use or other recreational passes. The bare trees against the winter landscape give the forest a beautiful allure under the cloak of darkness. The luminaries used to light the trail add just enough light to make the hike magical in appearance while keeping forest visitors on the trail. The 1.6-mile hike is a family friendly event. Snowshoes are optional, but many hike the packed down trail without them. The hike will be cancelled only if the temperatures dip to zero degrees Fahrenheit and below. Staff will be present along the trail and at the trailhead. A warming fire will be provided at the trailhead for hikers to gather. Inquiries can be made direct to the Great Divide Ranger Station at 715-634-4821 or 715-264-2511.
