Celebrate Earth Day with “Work, Play, Earth Day!” – Copper Falls State Park. 9am-1pm. Join Copper Falls State Park for a fun and rewarding Earth Day celebration during “Work, Play, Earth Day!” Volunteers of all ages are invited to help spruce up the park for summer while enjoying time outdoors and giving back to nature. Volunteers will gather at the New Reservable Pavilion for a 9am orientation, followed by a variety of light work tasks including cleaning the concession building, raking, picking up windfall, and lopping branches along scenic trails. All activities will take place rain or shine, so come dressed for the weather and the work. Please bring gloves, a water bottle, bug spray, a leaf rake if you have one, and wear long sleeves. For safety reasons, no pets, please. At noon, volunteers will be treated to a delicious lunch including chili, hot dogs, salads, desserts, and beverages. Be sure to stick around for door prize drawings at lunch and take time to enjoy the park’s breathtaking waterfalls and spring wildflowers. The Parkinsong Choir is a community choir formed as part of the Bay Area Parkinson’s Support Group. The group hopes to bring together people with Parkinson’s Disease, their partners, friends, caregivers, and community members to sing together and offer mutual support to one another. Music is very beneficial for all people, especially those dealing with physical, mental, and emotional health challenges. We are always looking for new singers! Chequamegon Veterans Center – History Speaker Series – In Cooperation with Iron Jaw Productions Presents: Endsieg – The Battle of Berlin and the Fall of Nazi Germany, featuring Walter Gurske to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. In April of 1945 Hitler’s Germany made an apocalyptic final stand amid the ruins of its capitol, sealing the fate of a dictator and those who had followed him. Our second scheduled speaker on September 18th at 6pm will be published author Mike O’Connor who will be speaking on the life of Poplar native, WWII fighter ace and Medal of Honor recipient Major Richard Bong.
