    Pastel Painting: Where Land and Water Meet with Diana Randolph. 10am-3pm. Use your own color photos of wetland landscapes as inspiration to create unique pastel paintings on paper.  Explore the art elements of value, color, and texture in your composition as you interpret the landscape, creating the illusion of three-dimensional space on a flat paper surface. The instructor, professional artist Diana Randolph of Once in a Blue Moon Studio, will demonstrate these concepts. You’ll practice many pastel painting techniques by layering pigment on various types of pastel paper. You’ll have the opportunity to view the Museum’s current exhibit, The Wetland Way.     Spring Clean Up – City of Ashland Residents Only.  Republic Services will provide dumpsters at the following locations: Oredock Parking Lot/Water St. & 8th Ave E, 8am-Noon; Civic Center Parking lot/320 4th Ave W, 8am-Noon; Public Works Facility/2020 6th St E, 8am-1pm; Stuntz Ave behind old Ellis Fire Station, 8am-Noon; and West End Skating Rink/17th Ave W., 8am-1pm.  Examples of accepted items at the drop off sites: appliances without Freon, non-food household garbage, mattresses, couches, recliners and old patio sets/umbrellas.  These items can be dropped off for a fee at the Republic Services Transfer Station, 405 Industrial Park Rd: Appliances with Freon, Tires auto & pick up size; large truck tires; electronics, fluorescent bulbs price vary on item.  Construction/demolition material $10/pickup single or $30 double axel trailer.  Please be advised that FREE items are only accepted at the listed locations.  Questions call Ashland Public Works at 715-682-7061.

    National Trails Day Celebration – North Country Trail Association Chequemegon Chapter Hikes 2026. For all three Wisconsin NCT Chapters at Highland Town Hall, 9360 County Road S, Lake Nebagamon, with choice of morning hikes and noon potluck, to be held rain or shine. Hike #1 (meet at 8:30am) will be from Highland Town Hall to Jersett Creek campsite and back (5.5 miles), and Hike #2 (meet at 9am) will be from Gaylord Nelson Portal to Highland Town Hall (5.0 miles). RSVP not required, but for timely alerts about schedule changes, please RSVP to che@northcountrytrail.org.     26th annual Kids Fishing Day at the David R. Obey Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center from 9am-1pm. Come join us to learn about fish, where they live, how to catch them, and how to cast. Join artist-photographer and former aeronautical engineer Mary Jo Hoffman renowned for her unique and personal engagement with the natural world for two Immersion classes on June 6, 2026 at Wild Rice Retreat. Best known for her project, “STILL” where every day for over a decade, she made a photograph of found nature – no subject too small or too ordinary. For Hoffman, this daily ritual cracked open profound revelations about the connectedness of all things, the importance of place, and the creative life.     Save the Date! Ashland County’s 31st Annual Cleansweep Hazardous Materials Collection, Northwood Technical College, Beaser Ave. 2-6pm. Ashland County residents, businesses, farms, and schools can bring toxic and hazardous products to this event. Most can be disposed of at no charge, although some items (fluorescent light bulbs, batteries) charge a small fee.  Check the web site for more information about what materials are and aren’t accepted. Farms and businesses need to pre-register by calling Northwest Regional Planning Commission at 715-635-2197.  Help keep dangerous products and chemicals out of our local waterways and landfills by disposing of them safely at this event!     Zooming in on Flowers: Drawing with Diana Randolph. 10am – 3pm. Register by: August 12. Cost: $45 member/$55 non-member. Express the intricate patterns of flowers on a microscopic scale! We’ll use magnifying glasses and giant, projected and printed images from a digital microscope to see fascinating details within our local blooms. After a brief presentation about flowers by a Museum Naturalist, professional artist Diana Randolph of Once in a Blue Moon Studio will instruct and demonstrate as we draw using the art elements of line, shading, and color.     Athletic Hall of Fame induction hosted by the Oredocker Foundation at the Bay Area Civic Center is the Ashland. Inductees are: Jodie Vande Venter Werre – Class of 1987,  Larry Fischer – Class of 1971, John Hennell – Class of 1976, John McFaul – Class of 1961.  Doors open at 5:30pm. Tickets are $40 dollars for dinner and the ceremony. There will be a fundraiser raffle too. There are virtual options available as well. We provide a safe and welcoming space to allow for sharing patients’ and caregivers’ experiences.     Black Cat Coffeehouse presents: Spoons for the People 11am-1pm.  In a blaze of creativity, Spoons for the People demonstrates an array of unique folk instruments as you’ve never heard them before. The Bones, Jug, Nose Flute, Jaw Harp, and more conspire and collaborate, layering on top of each other to form genre-defying grooves with the help of a looper pedal. Intricate arrangements of familiar and original tunes are constructed and improvised in real time, and electronic effects such as the vocoder (AKA ‘robot choir’) blend seamlessly with a colorful ensemble of age-old instruments. Audience members are invited to play the musical spoons (provided) with guided support and encouragement. Join this extraordinary singer, teacher, and folk instrumentalist for an interactive concert that’s sure to engross and inspire attendees.
