    Washburn Cultural Center Annual K–12 Student Art Show. Wednesdays–Sundays, May 4–27, 12–4pm. This is artwork by students from the School District of Washburn fills both galleries in the annual K–12 Student Art Show.  The Cultural Center will be open BOTH Saturday and Sunday afternoons, so that family, friends, and community members can appreciate the work of these budding artists.     Looking for Something to do on Mother’s Day Weekend?  Art, Music and Teachings – North Country Seasons at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center.  3-5pm.  Visit the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center for a Celebration of North Country Season 3pm View the Seasonal Art Show representing over 30 area artists.  4pm Hear a Presentation by Red Cliff Tribal Elder, Rob Goslin, Sr. on “TRANSLATING ANCIENT TEACHING INTO MEANINGFUL LIFE EXPERIENCES” In honoring the four seasons art show displayed at the visitor center he will be speaking and sharing Anishinaabe Teachings related to the creation of the world and respecting Mother Earth.  5pm The Garland City Consort will perform Vivaldi’s “La Primavera”. The Consort, formed in 2016, is one of the few musician-owned cooperative orchestras in the entire world.  The event is sponsored by the Chequamegon Bay Arts Council and the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center with financial support provided by the Wisconsin Arts Board, the State of WI and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Free will offering.     Learn to make Kimbap with Chef Lars Dukowitz at the Chequamegon Food Co-op, 700 Main St. W. , Ashland.  5 – 7pm.  Cost: $20/$15 owners.  DEMO: Kimbap, which translates to “seaweed rice”, is a Korean style sushi roll.     Penokee Mountain Cooperative School Fundraiser SPRING CARNIVAL right after the race, 11am-3 pm.  Kids games with prizes, henna body art, face painting, temporary tattoo, cake walk, Art raffle, chance raffle, wild rice soup, fry bread tacos, kittens and photo op with the professional photographer.  Raffle drawing is a 3pm.  Run start at 10 am. Kids 1/2k loop 11am.  Family friendly pregnancy/baby related costumes are encouraged. If you are an older adult, or you know an older adult, who wants to work on strength and balance, then check out the new Senior Sneakers exercise class.  Starting at 8:30am, Ignite Fitness Studio in Ashland will begin offering the Senior Sneakers. Designed exclusively for older adults, this 30-minute class offers an innovative blend of physical activities, healthy lifestyle direction and social opportunities.  Senior Sneakers is a low-impact class that offers a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activities for daily living. A chair is available if needed for seated and standing support. Gabriele Block, the Senior Sneakers instructor, is a certified SilverSneakers instructor and long-time fitness participant.     Memorial Day Remembrance Walk and Ceremony at MIHPA Veterans Memorial Garden-Please join the Madeline Island Historical Preservation Association immediately following the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Town Dock, LaPointe from 11:30-12:30pm. We will walk from the Town Dock up Colonel Woods Avenue to the MIHPA Heritage Center. There we will gather around the Veteran’s Honor Garden for a flag raising ceremony, songs by the summer choir and the laying of new pavers in the Honor Garden.     The Washburn School District’s Annual Student Art Show returns to the Washburn Cultural Center’s galleries this month! Stop by to see this popular yearly exhibition of works created by elementary, middle, and high school artists over the past year. This year’s show includes over one hundred paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures, photographs, and mixed media works.     Spring Clean Up – City of Ashland Residents Only.  Eagle Waste & Recycling will provide dumpsters at the following locations:  11th Ave W,  between 3rd & 5th Street 8am-12noon;  Civic Center parking lot, 320 4th Ave West, between 8am-1pm; Stuntz Ave behind the old Ellis Fire Station, 8am-12noon; Public Works Facility, 2020 6th St E, 8am-1pm.  Residents are required to bring a current water bill for proof of residency.  FREE – Items accepted at the drop off site: Appliances without Freon, Non-Food Household Garbage, couches, mattresses, chairs, carpeting, etc.  For a FEE: Items only accepted at the Eagle Waste Transfer Station, 405 Industrial Park Rd:  Appliances with Freon, Tires, Electronics, fluorescent bulbs, construction/demolition material($10 for pick-up or single axle trailer and $30 for dual axle trailer) and Recyclables (Free).  Any questions call 715-682-7061.  Face masks and social distancing are encouraged.
