    Strut Your Mutt Run/Walk Event presented by the Chequamegon Humane Association.  9am-12noon at Prentice Park.  This is a fundraiser for the Animal shelter.  Fun for the whole family.  Add to the fun by displaying your family’s style by dressing up with your pets.  There will be prizes for fastest male, fastest female and fastest child.  A prize for best costume will also be awarded.  Refreshments will be served and fun activities for the pups will be offered following the run/walk.  All registered participants will receive a neon-colored, reflective paw print hat.  Canine participants will receive a spiffy new paw print bandana.  $25/single $50/family.  Questions call 715-682-9744

    Superior Vistas Bike Tour, Thompson’s West End Park, 300 W. 8th Ave., Washburn. This is a ride, not a race, geared toward both families and individual cyclists. Novice and experienced bicyclists will ride a scenic mix of paved roads past farmland, forest, lakes, gently rolling hills, vistas and views of Lake Superior.  Distances of 13, 19, 34, 40, 52, 70 & 100.  New this year 2 Fat Bike Routes.     Spark will take place from 6 – 8pm in Ashland, location to be determined. What is Spark?  Spark aims to foster the development of entrepreneurs in the area who are solving community needs: addressing community development, adding workforce opportunities, and/or creating a service or product that enhances the quality of life in the Chequamegon Bay region. Applications are due by March 18th. All applications will be reviewed, and the final presenters will be selected and notified by April 1st.  As a community partner, we are asking for your assistance in spreading the word about this event. Please feel free to share information about this competition through your media networks.  At this time, it has not been decided if this will be an in-person or virtual event. The audience has a chance to evaluate and vote for their favorite idea alongside the judges. Each presenter will be given 5 minutes followed by 5 minutes of questions. Selected finalists will pitch their idea to judges and an audience for the chance to win $5,000 and a business start-up package.     The Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau is excited to bring back the live broadcast of WPR’s “Garden Talk” with Larry Meiller at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion, 2 East Font Street, Bayfield, 10am-12:30pm.   The show kicks off Bayfield in Bloom, a week-long celebration of spring.  “One of my favorite shows every year is our Bayfield in Bloom program. I first hosted the show in 2002, so it would be our 20-year anniversary if it hadn’t been for COVID!” said Meiller.  Listen live and bring your questions as Meiller and horticultural experts explore gardening issues.     Spring Clean Up – City of Ashland Residents Only.  Republic Services will provide dumpsters at the following locations:  11th Ave W between 3rd & 5th St 8am-1pm; Civic Center Parking lot-320 4th Ave W 8am-12noon; Stuntz Ave behind the old Ellis Fire Station 8am-12noon and Public Works Facility – 2020 6th St E 8am-1pm.  Examples of accepted items at the drop off sites: appliances with out Freon, non-food household garbage, mattresses, box springs, couches, chairs and carpeting.  These items can be dropped off for a fee at the Republic Services Transfer Station, 405 Industrial Park Rd: Appliances with Freon $35, Tires $15/auto & pick up size; $25/large truck tires; electronics, fluorescent bulbs price vary on item.  Construction/demolition material$10/pickup $30 single or double axel trailer.  Please be advised that FREE items are only accepted at the listed locations and Free items are only accepted at the republic Services Transfer Station.  Questions call Ashland Public Works at 715-682-7061.

    Join the Chequamegon Veteran’s to kick off the summer with ice cream and root beer floats!  We will be in the back of the Chequamegon Veteran’s Center, 211 6th Street West,  along the corridor, just walk up or park in the lot!  All proceeds benefit local veteran’s programs, including the restoration of the Memorial Park cannon in Ashland!  The Chequamegon Veterans Center facility is the Post home for American Legion Post 90, VFW Post 690, and DAV Chapter 28 as well as the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of American Legion.

    Athletic Hall of Fame induction hosted by the Oredocker Foundation at the Bay Area Civic Center is the Ashland. Inductees are:  John Paitl; Milton Gardner; Kevin Pufall and the 1984 State Champion Football Team.  Doors open at 5pm, dinner service begins 5:30pm, program starts at 6:30pm. Tickets are $40 dollars for dinner and the ceremony. There will be a fundraiser raffle too. All money raised goes back to help the students of the school district in some manner. Please consider getting a golf team together and/or attending the HOF dinner. Every par 3 at the course has a hole in one prize.

    Chequamegon Memorial VFW Post 690 will be hosting a Brat Fry fundraiser from 10am to 3pm at the Taste of Wisconsin, 420 Lakeshore Drive West in Ashland.  Proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to the University of Wisconsin Missing In Action (MIA) Recovery and Identification project. This project works to identify the unidentified remains of missing US service members, to include1, 500 from Wisconsin, located on foreign soils and return them home to their respective families.  Please come out to support your local veteran’s and enjoy a great brat from the Taste of Wisconsin, a bag of chips and a bottle of water all for just $5.00.

    Ashland County’s 27th Annual Cleansweeps Hazardous Materials Collection, Northwood Technical College (formally WITC) parking lot, 2100 Beaser Ave., Ashland, 2-6pm.  Ashland County residents, businesses, farms, and schools can bring toxic and hazardous products to this event. Most can be disposed of at no charge, although some items (fluorescent light bulbs, batteries) charge a small fee.  Check the web site for more information about what materials are and aren’t accepted. Farms and businesses need to pre-register by calling Northwest Regional Planning Commission at 715-635-2197.  Help keep dangerous products and chemicals out of our local waterways and landfills by disposing of them safely at this event! Residents of neighboring counties can participate in Ashland County.   Also accepted are controlled medications and prescriptions, and over the counter medications. We’ll trade you a free “Donut for Drugs” if you bring in your unwanted medications!  This year, we‘re offering free thank-you gifts to Cleansweeps participants who protect their communities and environment. We have a Pilot pen made of 85% recycled soda bottles, or a sample of recycled paper embedded with native plant seeds that can be planted in pots or yards.

    Ashland Rotary Club and Ashland Music Boosters present 7th Annual Concert with a Cause.  A free concert, at 6:30pm at the Ted Mesang Memorial Band Shell, Highway 2, Ashland.  Inclement weather location:  Ashland High School Auditorium.  Free will offering. Concert proceeds will fund Ashland Rotary Community Building Leadership Grants and Ashland Music Boosters.  Performers: Alumni from the Chequamegon Bay Area: Guilty Pleasure (2006) and Rock ‘n Roll Reunion Concert.  www.ashlandencores.org

    Annual Mason Days Community Worship Service, at the Mason, WI local Fire Station: 183 County Hwy E. This year award winning Christian Music Duo, Blake & Jenna Bolerjack, will be in concert at 10 AM and the local fire station. All are welcome. As husband and wife, Blake & Jenna meld their voices to create a signature, velvety blend. Their music reflects their personalities, a bubbly mix of classic and modern styles with a big sound that is energetic, happy and inspiring.
